I just found a nice tool for checking the readability of websites. It checks paragraph length, etc. There are a couple of background articles on that subject as well.
Breadcrumbs | |
|---|---|
| I love Jack Daniels -> Flesch-Kincaid readability score tool | |
How do I score? | |
|---|---|
| I've checked the tool by pasting the summary of this article into the textarea there. The results are quite interesting. | |
Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease: 54 | |
|---|---|
| "Ideally, web page text should be around the 60 to 80 mark on this scale. The higher the score, the more readable the text." | |
Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level: 8 | |
|---|---|
|
"Ideally, web page text should be around the 6 to 7 mark on this scale. The lower the score, the more readable the text." -- not too bad! |
|
Gunning-Fox Index: 14 | |
|---|---|
| "Ideally, web page text should be between 11 and 15 on this scale. The lower the score, the more readable the text. (Anything over 22 should be considered the equivalent of post-graduate level text). " -- great! | |
Conclusion | |
|---|---|
| Check this tool out. It's at least interesting, if not useful for every day "back to reality" checks. | |
