The (unofficial!) phpWebSite awards 2006
updated by rck, 2007-01-02

What can be more thrilling than a nice and fair competition? A competition of skilled webmasters and webmistresses, gifted and proven masters of phpWebSite? Well, I could think of a couple of things. Anyway, here's the plan.

There are three categories: Commercial, Non-Commercial and Creative. Commercial and Non-Commercial sites should be an obvious distinction. But what about the creative ones? This category is for "most creative phpWebSite use" and requires the participating sites to have either a self-made theme or at least one self-made module.

Update: We have a winner! The Femme Fatales got the most votes and thus won the phpWebSite awards 2006. Congratulations!

The concept

You know about the Missing Hack challenge already? Well, that's about all you need to participate in this online competition as well. As for the missing hack, there's the possibility to propose sites during November 2006. Then, there's a couple of polls, one for each category, leading to winners of the three categories.

As usual, I'm the one choosing the sites that will participate. As usual, you're the one proposing and voting. As usual, there's one month of time for voting. As usual, I'll think of a fair solution in case there should be ties.

Timeline

  • November 2006: Suggestions are collected in the three threads
  • December 2006: I choose a representative set of the suggestions and set up polls
  • January 2007 (beginning of): Winners are announced as well as sent their winning graphics to by mail.

Note: To make cheating just a little bit harder, winning graphics need to be linked to the corresponding page of the winners announcement. I'll give a rundown in the winner mails.

Let there be a fair fight!

The threads

So let's talk business. We have four threads but only three categories. The fourth is for discussion. While the suggestion threads are closed around start of December 2006, the discussion thread remains open. Please discuss in the discussion thread which also features paging (comments don't)

Every thread contains a rundown of its rules.

Questions? Comments? Praise? Please put them into the discussion thread.

Have fun!

Hello is this thing on…. [taps mic]

Ah well what can I say, the competition was entered to give us feedback on what we have done with the site from people outside the City Of Heroes community and truthfully we never expected to win.

The comments on the site have opened our eyes to a few things that are wrong with it, but all in all its nearly there.

Thank you must go out to Pyra who put the theme together, and to our major contributors who help fill the site with content, Knightingale, Krissie, Proximity, and all the other Femmes who have contributed with screenshots and posed for pictures.

Finally I would like to thank Kiesler.at for putting these awards up for us to participate in, and all the people who voted for us. Thank you
